Yin and Yang are the Taoist concepts which describe the two relative qualities present in everything. Yin is passive, cooling and downward while Yang is dynamic, warming and upward.
In this Yin Yang Yoga workshop we will blend two styles of yoga into one practice. We will begin with Yin yoga, holding passive poses for longer periods of time. Then we will move into the more dynamic part of the workshop when we will practice Hatha/Vinyasa going through flowing sequences and standing postures.
Yin poses are usually held for 3/5 minutes. This targets the deeper layers of connective tissue, ligaments and fascia of the body, while simultaneously promoting and maintaining joint mobility. It helps to quieten the mind and encourages the nervous system to settle.
Yang Yoga, in contrast is more active. It involves more flowing sequences, moving from one posture to another. It’s warming and increases blood flow, building strength, stamina and flexibility.
To finish we will enjoy a relaxing Yoga Nidra.
Hope you can join me on March 23rd from 10:30-12:30 in Scots Hall, Clontarf, Dublin 3
