Hot Yoga

 What is Hot Yoga?

Hot Yoga is practiced in a room which is heated to approximately 25 degrees. The heat helps to stretch muscle fibers and tendons. The class has a flowing dynamic style which incorporates standing, twisting, core and strength building postures. These poses help to improve flexibility, weight loss, strength, conditioning and balance.
It is a mixed level class catering to all levels.

What are the benefits of hot yoga?

Increase flexibility – Flexibility is something you will gain through yoga practice. You don’t have to be flexible to start.  Whether you can touch the floor or not in a forward bend is not important but the attitude with which you approach the pose is. During your practice, it is important to be honest with yourself and accept where you are at this particular moment without judgement or criticism. The heat in a hot yoga class improves the body’s flexibility in order to deepen your practice.

Tone and Strengthen – Standing postures like  and Triangle and Warrior use body weight to build leg muscles. Postures that place weight on the arms and upper body help to tone the arms and core areas. Many different asanas help strengthen your spine and help with back pains. With stronger, longer muscles and better alignment there will be less strain on your joints and therefore less wear and tear. That means less injury!

Release stress, flush toxins out, and improve your skin  – Practising yoga in a heated environment causes the body to sweat. This can increase circulation and helps the body function more efficiently.

Improve and control your breathing and learn to meditate – We normally start the class with a short meditation.  This focuses the mind and helps to develop better mental concentration.

Balance your metabolism and stimulate your immune system

Yoga cultivates the ability to have a deeper more relaxing sleep and reduce stress.- Research has shown that yoga is beneficial in the treatment of depression and anxiety

Helps with weight loss. 1 hour of hot yoga burns approx 475 calories per hour.  During a hot yoga class your heart rate will increase. With dedication and commitment many people have seen weight loss.
